Series Reviews

I only recently was talked into watching the first episode by my Daughter as I avoid the Undead, Ghost, Vampire genre. I was blown away! I could not stop watching and had to get EVERY episode! They made 6 episodes year 1 and about 12 year 2, at 42 minutes an episode the entire year 1&2 run time is around 12 hours total and COULD RUN AS ONE 12 HOUR MOVIE, and you would still not wanna leave for popcorn. The end of each episode left me dying for the next one, The writing is incredible, the character development amazing and don't suppose you know who will live or die here cause you will have no idea. The quality makes it seem as if all other series are quaint and boring. I find myself thinking about the next episode every day. VERY WATCHABLE; VERY ENTERTAINING; GREAT GREAT SERIES!!

Movie Reviews

This movie relates to older, plot absent cheeseball action flicks. You will for sure enjoy this at all if you're OK with movies like The Transporter, Hard to Kill, Marked for Death, Commando etc as long as you go into this movie the same way you would those.

What will ruin it is if you go in expecting a deep and complex plot that looked promised by the trailers, like I did. If you do this, trying to pay attention to every little detail of the story then you will be asking yourself a lot of questions that sadly won't get answered.

As for loyalty to the game series, I've only had a little bit of exposure to the Hit-man games but I can say there were some cool little things from the game done in the movie and it was very exciting to see. The actor who played Agent 47 may not look 100% like agent 47 even with the baldness but he nailed the character pretty well, not that it matched with what the writing was trying to do with him, the writing for him didn't feel right either which is one of the big issues with this movie.

So altogether I can't say this is a good movie, but it is not more or less than 'okay' meaning there is some value inside this film that make it worth watching even if it's not that good. That value is that the action scenes and the gore in them are Awesome!

It's not really worth buying, but if it was on one of your subscriptions such as Netflix then I would totally say check it out in the most unoccupied free time. For me personally, it's one of those movies I would like to have on while I'm doing things. But once again, if you want to have a great amount of fun with it, take my advice and watch it with the 'Classic Plot less Cheesy Action Movie' sense in the head in the way of the above mentioned films. Turn your brain off and enjoy!

Movie Reviews

I have always loved Vacation movies, and this one continues the tradition of laugh-out-loud humor. There are several scenes which pay homage to the original Vacation movie which was great to see. Fans of Chevy Chase will be shocked to see how much his appearance has changed, even since his role on Community ended. Ed Helms did an amazing job as a hapless father trying to give his family a great vacation, in the only way a Griswold knows how. Along the way he has to deal with his own family's quirks, his extended family, car trouble, a menacing trucker, and numerous other problems. Christina Applegate was also great as his wife, in the same straight-woman vein as Beverly D'Angelo's portrayal of Ellen in the earlier films. I saw this at a preview before it was released and it was clear from the laughter that the audience thought it was worth their time. If you grew up on the Vacation movies as I did, I think you'll love this entry too, but be prepared for outrageous situations and ridiculous scenarios.

Movie Reviews

It's not the greatest of the female-themed action adventures, but it's certainly watchable. I saw it because I'm a fan of James Purefoy and Olga Kurylenko. They were good in their roles, but each time Purefoy said one of his "Damn! She's good!" lines, it was silly. It wasn't that she was such a professional, it's more that the bad guys came across as rather inept. Some of it was tongue-in-cheek, such as when Purefoy's coat caught fire, he slowly took it off, saying "I liked that coat." There wasn't a great deal of urgency projected from the bad guys showing they needed to get back that drive quickly. Morgan Freeman's character was fairly a mute point in the movie. They could've stuck any actor -- famous or not -- in that role, that's how superfluous his character was. All in all, it was entertaining. Having seen him play Blackbeard and Joe Carroll, I have to say James Purefoy does the bad guy roles very good.

I gave this a 5-star rating. I'd recommend this if you liked Colombiana and Salt. It's not as good as either of those movies, but it's along the same lines, and Kurylenko is good in the few action scenes she's in.

Pan Reviews

This is an excellent movie for the family. They truly did an outstanding job creating a fresh way to present Peter Pan. This movie is a prequel that I feel definitely did an outstanding job filling in the questions we have about the loved character Peter Pan. The visual effects and design were amazing, in my opinion the movie looked as good as Avatar.

The Movie was fun for everyone. It was adult enough in ways to keep parents from passing out and drooling on themselves; and light hearted enough to keep from being to violent to take your children to watch. They had an excellent idea for the fight scenes that I feel most of everyone will enjoy.

Texas Rising :

Stars: Bill Paxton, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez

Movie Reviews

It took me 5 minutes to discover what a poor series this will be. In the execution scene, an African-American survivor is brutally finished off, when in reality, this survivor was spared because Mexico had outlawed slavery. A short time later, a Rambo-like figure escapes the burial pit to wreck havoc. Santa Anna, the Napoleon of the West, is depicted as a genocidal loony with the quirkiness of a Caligula.

This is a deep step down from the Hatfields and the McCoys as the History Channel is morphing into the DisHistory Channel. I cannot fathom the people who rated this a 9 were stuffing the ballot box. The story of Texas is an exciting and unique one. Were the actual personalities and events too bland for the writers ?

 Reviews

This series is truly great television. On every single level it works and the judgemental aspect of my brain can only give up finding something to criticise. First of all the show deals with the subject of terrorism in a very mature way, there is no ideology behind the script and every perspective is treated fairly. The characters have a real depth rarely seen on screen which is backed up by a lot of very solid acting. Indeed, the conflicting elements to the central characters which makes the show so great would unlikely be pulled off without actors of the calibre of Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin (also particular kudos to the daughter played by Morgan Saylor - one to watch out for in the future). Not only do you watch these characters go through some truly weird and strained circumstances, you really feel it too. The story also has a depth and complexity to it that has only been seen in shows such as The Wire, Lost, The Sopranos and Generation Kill. There are no plot holes that distract from the often quite tense narrative and despite what you think of the overall subject I would be surprised if this show didn't totally suck you in. This is a very real, well thought out and well executed show. Two big thumbs up to everyone involved. For everybody else - go watch it.

This has to go down as the most inane and laziest script ever written for TV. There is the story line that as they storm the Statue of Liberty its point out that there is only 3 FBI agents going to comb the island to which JANE gets to go because she speaks Chinese. I mean in all of NYC there is only 3 FBI agents to handle the situation. WTF? What happened to all the FBI agents or NYPD tactical squad? Its just not addressed figuring the viewers will just accept the situation as the writer wrote. Then, the Chinese dissident is left alone in a hospital and the FBI does not have the guy under guard. What if he just walked out? Lame lame lame. And those two examples was just the tip of the iceberg. Worst writing/story structure I have ever seen. These guys should be striped of their WGA membership. I was looking forward to seeing the story arc of the story. However, I'm afraid this inane writing will be in every episode so I'm done. Its going to go off the rails and not goanna waste my time with such poor story structure and writing.

User Reviews

I just finished watching the first showing and I am very pleased. Others and I have been starving for more Nathan Fillion ever since Firefly. It seems he has finally landed a lead role, which he has so definitely earned, in an interesting looking series. At this juncture, I don't have many predictions for the series which is a rarity these days and I think that it will be fun watching Castle and detective Beckett's relationship grow. The writing was quite creative even though it sometimes felt like they were rushing things. I think its possible that they could have made this first episode last another week or two, however, at the same time, its fast pace leaves no time wasted. I found myself sprinting into the kitchen for munchies and racing back in hopes of not missing any of the action. I will definitely be watching this next week :)

Downton Abbey Series

Downton Abbey :Lord Grantham sees his family heritage, especially the grand country home Downton Abbey, as his mission in life. The death of his heir aboard the Titanic means distant cousin Matthew Crawley, a Manchester lawyer, suddenly is next in line and accepts moving onto the vast estate with his even more modernist, socially engaged mother, who clashes with his lordship's domineering, conservative mother, the dowager countess. Marrying off the daughters is another concern. Meanwhile, the butler presides over a staff which serves the family, but also lead most of their entire lives in the servants' quarters, intriguing amongst themselves.

Creator: Julian Fellowes

Stars: Hugh Bonneville, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern

Series Reviews

For me at least Downton Abbey was elegant, controlled and subtly witty. The scenery, of course, is very good. (anyone interested can find short interviews with actor Hugh Bonneville and writer Julian Fellowes via youtube and be infected with their enthusiasm as well as getting an explanation, if you need one, of the setting) The house is suitably dramatic and the fabrics, the costumes, the camera shots of ringing bells and curious meal courses in the form of fences of asparagus, the morning light, or lit windows across the lawn, and the smooth work of all the actors make it something to watch and be both interested and relaxed. There is just enough drama and just enough calm, nothing seems overdone, and (after two episodes) the characters, as it switches between moments of their various days, are none of them an unwelcome change from the view of the last. It is a costume drama but 1912 after all was just as real as 2010 and it is, quite separate from costumes, about people, several different people, house workers and owners, their motives, their histories, pain, relationships, scheming allegiances, awkwardness or ease, old ways and the coming of those things we now call modern… electric lights, the middle class…Enjoyable so far. However, if you find these things dull, if you need constant shocks, use the word inoffensive as an insult or dislike all period dramas, scenery or rich people…stay away. It's not hard to do.

I wanted to like this show. I saw the trailer/teaser for it and I was intrigued.

Sadly, the real show doesn't stand up to the excitement generated in the trailer.

The good thing - the show is technically well made. The photography for the most part is well done, the sound is good, etc. The women are beautiful to look. They are trying to create lots of mystery to draw the viewer in for the long haul.

The bad - the story is just stupid. The premise and the way the characters interact to keep her on the run even though they know she is innocent is silly. The acting is so-so to pretty poor. It's hard to really believe any of these people are FBI trainees. And the actual classes at Quantico are unbelievable - in a bad way.

I have lasted 2 and half episodes and I am done. I have given up.

I don't think it's worth the time to watch the entire season to solve the "mysteries" they generated,

Action Hollywood Movie

The Walking Dead:In 1972 Vietnam, a group of United States Marines are sent in to rescue several POW officers. The Landing Zone (LZ) which should have been "cold" actually turns out to indeed be very "hot" (characterized by violent and forceful activity or movement ; very intense). Soon, after a short fight, only four of the soldiers are left alive. Later, the platoon which they were to meet the next day is entirely wiped out with the exception of one nut-case. The small group then arrives at the conclusion that they are all expendable decoys. Between all of the walking, talking, arguing and assaulting between the four soldiers, there are flashbacks to all of their contrite lives before serving in the Corps.

Okay..... if Platoon or Apocolypse Now is available, you should rent those films instead. However, if you've seen those features (and enjoyed them) -- then give The Walking Dead a shot. Its nothing extraordinary, but each actor (especially Allan Payne) gives a excellent, believable performance. Its also nice to see that Central Florida was used as a location to film something besides a bad comedy (Earnest Saves Christmas) or bad Reality TV shows (Making The Band).

Movie Reviews

Chinese animation has been through a rough time, it missed the mark so many times when used to create epic legend. However, it seems that the eccentric animation just found its niche with the blend of humor, drama and action fantasy that is Monster Hunt. It shockingly deals with a few eerie themes yet presented in family friendly light humorous way, almost like MIB in ancient China.

In a world where monster and human live in inharmonious way, an ordinary man finds himself in a struggle between the monster kingdom and human hunters. It opens up with typical fantasy troupe, then escalates with good comedic tone as well as healthy dose of martial art stunts. The cast works fine, especially with famous names as supporting characters or cameos, some of them are added for comedy relief.

The tone might feel awkward, it's often playful but then it displays incredibly creepy prejudice against the monster, even down to eating and torturing them. Granted, some of them look like radish or salad, although the abrupt change of pace can be startling. There are definitely some odd twists here. Fortunately enough, the core drama is light humor, with endearing family value thrown into the mix. It mostly deals with platonic funny theme, and fans of Chinese cinema should find the humor familiar.

For a movie that uses animation and action choreography at the same time, Monster Hunt looks amazing, especially in the second half with gorgeous setting. It's one of the best animations Chinese has produced, it's much smoother than the rest and these silly designs are well integrated into the world. The feel of uncanny valley actually works in their favor since the monsters only partially resemble human yet they look harmless enough to be friendly.

Monster Hunt has all the elements of Chinese fantasy movie, the visual effect and also the soundtracks enhance the flamboyantly cheesy premise. It's a well-produced action comedy and definitely a crowd pleaser.

Movie Reviews

I was lucky to see this in a cinema where no one spoke during the entire duration of the film (a rarity I find nowadays) - it may be because people were holding their breath in anticipation of what was to come next. Wow. Had me transfixed the entire way through. Those familiar lines no less haunting for the multiple times my eyes have seen them and my ears heard them. Some clever interpretation of the original text including additions that were only spoken of in the original play script. Some purists might not like these additions and interpretations but I found them equitable to the original. Fassbender was amazing. Understated where needed, alternately a powerhouse. I can and will watch again.
